Christian women from across Uganda gathered on March 6 at St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral Namungoona, Kampala, to celebrate the World Women’s Day of Prayer, in a vibrant ecumenical gathering marked by prayer, unity, and reflection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National celebration was organized under the umbrella of the Uganda Joint Christian Council, which brings together the country\u2019s major Christian denominations. In Uganda, the annual observance rotates among the Uganda Orthodox Church<\/a>, the Roman Catholic Church, and the Anglican Church (Church of Uganda).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s celebration was hosted by the Uganda Orthodox Church through the Union of the Uganda Orthodox Church Mothers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2026 observance was held under the theme \u201cI Will Give You Rest: Come,\u201d prepared by the women of Nigeria and inspired by the Gospel of Matthew 11:28\u201330, which calls believers to seek comfort and rest in Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prayers were led by His Eminence Jeronymos Muzeeyi of the Holy Metropolis of Kampala, while the Chief Guest was Hon. Judith Nabakooba, the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development<\/a> of the Republic of Uganda. Also in attendance was Hon. Cotilda Nakate Kikomeko, representing the Buganda Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

World Women’s Day of Prayer in Uganda graced by over 2000 participants<\/h3>\n\n\n

More than 2,000 participants attended the prayer gathering, during which speakers offered prayers for peace in the world, stability in Uganda, and harmony within families and communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the event, the Uganda Orthodox Church Mothers’ Union, through Hon. Nabakooba, also launched a one-year strategic plan aimed at addressing the basic needs of mothers and strengthening social support within communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hon. Nabakooba assured the Mothers Union of the continued support of the Government of Uganda in achieving the objectives outlined in the strategic plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his closing remarks, Metropolitan Jeronymos invoked the blessings of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ upon the members of the different Mothers’ Unions in Uganda, praying for guidance and success in their activities throughout 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n
