A new chapter in faith-driven humanitarian work has begun in Jinja with the official launch of Afriki Diakonia Foundation Uganda, a community-focused initiative to address pressing social and economic challenges affecting vulnerable populations.
The foundation was formally inaugurated on Sunday, April 12, 2026, coinciding with the Feast of the Resurrection by His Grace Bishop Silvester of the Holy Diocese of Jinja and Eastern Uganda, who also serves as its patron.
The launch ceremony took place at the gardens of the Holy Resurrection Cathedral following a solemn hierarchical Divine Liturgy presided over by the Bishop, alongside clergy, including Rev. Protopresbyter Chrysostomos Koolya, the Vicar General.
Speaking at the launch, Bishop Silvester explained that the foundation was born out of years of pastoral ministry and close engagement with communities facing hardship.
He noted that witnessing widespread poverty, youth unemployment, and limited access to education and healthcare inspired the creation of the foundation as a response grounded in compassion and practical service. The initiative operates on the principle of diakoni, a spirit of selfless service rooted in love for one’s neighbour and a shared responsibility to uplift society.
Afriki Diakonia Foundation Uganda aims to mobilize individuals, partners, and communities to work collectively toward improving lives and strengthening the social fabric. Its core focus includes supporting children, youth, women, and families through education, life skills development, health initiatives, and sustainable livelihood programs.
Afriki Diakonia Foundation’s early impact and ongoing work
Although officially registered in mid-2025, the foundation initially operated as a community-based organization in Jinja, where it made notable progress. Early initiatives included providing educational support to vulnerable children and conducting community sensitization programs in underserved areas on the outskirts of the city.
Despite limited financial resources, the foundation has continued to expand its outreach, demonstrating that even small, coordinated efforts can produce meaningful and lasting change.
The launch, therefore, comes at a time when many communities across Uganda continue to face significant challenges. Persistent poverty, high youth unemployment, and inadequate access to quality healthcare and education remain major concerns.
Additionally, the effects of climate change, including prolonged droughts and unpredictable rainfall, have further strained livelihoods, especially in rural areas. These conditions highlight the urgent need for sustained philanthropic support to enhance basic services, empower local communities, and promote long-term development.

As it expands its mission, Afriki Diakonia Foundation Uganda is inviting individuals, organizations, and well-wishers to partner in its work. Supporters are encouraged to contribute toward ongoing and future initiatives aimed at transforming lives and fostering hope in vulnerable communities.

The launch marks not only the beginning of a formal structure but also a renewed commitment to compassionate action offering a platform through which goodwill can be translated into tangible impact.
