A blessed occasion of the monastic tonsure of two new servants of God was conducted in Kolwezi City in the Holy Diocese of Katanga, Democratic Republic of Congo, presided over by Bishop Cosmas of Konstantiani, Episcopal Vicar of the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
During this sacred ceremony conducted on April 19, 2024, former brother Anesthi, a devoted member of the Parish of the Holy Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Lubumbashi, was tonsured into the monastic order and received the name Monk Paisios. Likewise, brother Omilos, originally from Bandundu, was also tonsured and now bears the name Monk Porphyrios.
Both newly tonsured monks received their spiritual formation at the Monastery of the Twelve Apostles in Kolwezi, where they underwent a period of preparation and discernment, dedicating themselves to prayer and ascetic life in readiness for full commitment to the monastic calling.
This sacred event, in which the Reverend Monk Meletios Martin was in presence, marked a meaningful milestone not only for the two newly professed monks but also for the wider Church in Katanga. It stands as a testimony to the living presence of monastic vocation in the region and a sign of hope for the continued growth of the faithful.
The Holy Metropolis of Katanga rejoices in these new vocations, praying that the Lord may grant them strength, wisdom, perseverance, and holiness as they embrace their life of consecration.
