Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria Convenes in Alexandria, Egypt

The Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa is currently meeting at the Patriarchal Headquarters in Alexandria under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II, scheduled for October 6 to October 8, 2025.

Gathering under the blessing of the Holy Spirit, the hierarchs of the ancient See of Saint Mark have convened to deliberate on matters concerning the missionary, pastoral, and administrative life of the Church across the African continent.

Other activities will include the election of new hierarchs of the Holy throne of Alexandria and the creation of new spiritual administrative dioceses.

In his opening remarks, Patriarch Theodoros II urged unity and renewed commitment to spreading the Orthodox faith and serving the people of Africa.

Canonization of news Saints by the Holy Synod of Alexandria

In a special and historic attempt, the Holy Synod is expected to canonize two saints of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, namely;  

Our Father among the Saints, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria, Sylvester, and Our Venerable and God-bearing Father Chrysostomos Papasarantopoulos.

The Synod’s proceedings will continue throughout the week, with an official communiqué expected at the conclusion and ending with a patriarchal liturgy on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
